Pregnancy and birth is a normal physiological process. Recent research has demonstrated that homebirth is a safer option for women who are low risk. Homebirth provides women with much more than continuity of care. It enables women to give birth in a comfortable, familiar place surrounded by family and a loving, private and safe environment. This means that women have the same primary care provider for the continuum of their pregnancy, birth and postnatal period.
Women who choose homebirth do so for various reasons and this may come out of a desire to have a more empowered birth experience and to feel in control of their birth. A woman should be empowered to take charge of her own experience, provided with knowledge and skills, and surrounded by those she loves. I recognise that each woman and her significant others have a unique journey and the care I provide is tailored to suit every woman and her situation. Care is offered to women on the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie and Newcastle region from 12 weeks gestation right through to 6 weeks postnatal.
